RIGA – According to Latvian President Egils Levits, the NATO Summit in Brussels was ”historical”.

Levits says NATO Summit in Brussels ''historical''

As LETA was told by the Presidential Chancery, this summit was historical for two reasons.

First, because NATO members adopted the NATO2030 concept, which sets out NATO’s guiding principles for this decade – what NATO will do and what NATO’s tasks will be to defend the interests and values on which its members are based, the president explained.

Secondly, it was a historic summit also because the United States reiterated very clearly and unequivocally that it stands together with its NATO allies and that NATO was united. “United to defend our interests and values,” Levits said.

The president emphasized that NATO is and will continue to be the most successful defense organization in the history of the world, thanks to the decisions of this summit and the fact that indeed all member states agreed that in this new geopolitical situation, where democracies have to compete with authoritarian powers such as Russia and China, all democracies within this alliance must stand together.

As reported, U.S. President Biden during a meeting with the Baltic states’ leaders in Brussels on Monday underscored strong U.S. support for the security of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, as well as the entire Baltic region.

Biden met with with Prime Minister Kaja Kallas of Estonia, President Egils Levits of Latvia, and President Gitanas Nauseda of Lithuania on the margins of the NATO Summit in Brussels.

The four leaders committed to further strengthening political, military, and economic partnerships, including working together through NATO to address challenges posed by Russia and China.
